Conventional Ramen Shop
Rairaiken is said to be the first ramen shop in Tokyo. It was built alomost 100 years. Unfortunately, it no longer exists, so we can see how it looked in photos only. But there is no need to feel regret for its loss because there are several ramen shops whose appearance look as if they were built as old as Rairaiken.

Though not as old as Rairaiken , following Ramen shops have several-decades-long history. Those period of time has made classic ramen shops venerable and unrivaled with newly opened followers.Not only the outside, but also inside the shops you can enjoy nostalgic atomosphere as if you were starring in a movieYasujiro Ozu.

On the contrary to the classic ramen shops above, the following ramen shops have around ten years history or shorter. But they look like barracks! This type of shabby looking ramen shops are not rare but rather standard. Actually it seems that most of owners/chefs are not really concerned about decor. Being cooks, they believe that customers are magnetted by their ramen but not shops without doubt.
But in the last several years new entrants from outside ramen industry has changed the situations gradually.
