Amidst surroundings that range from modest (paper and clothespins lamp shades)
to tacky (avocado green walls and plastic blinds), one can enjoy the best bowl
of ramen I have had. The broth was VERY nice and the noodles! They were
tasty and had that chewy texture that can be all too elusive in any pasta
dish. These noodles had body and texture that was retained right through the last slurp! The shoyu ramen was perfectly composed--even the half egg nested
prettily among the noodles. A bowl of nabeyaki was also excellent, as were the
gyoza. In the words of my dining companion, the meal was "Yummy!" Next time,
I would skip the California Roll and just stick to the basics for a fine
meal.

This is by far the best ramen restaurant in the San Francisco bay area. The
food, including all types of ramen and gyoza, is consistently fresh and
well-prepared, and chef is friendly and willing to discuss his cooking with you.
Once you have gone to Katanaya, all other SF ramen shops will pale in
comparison!
