Ramen House Ryowa
Now I'm no ramen expert, but I know unacceptable ramen when I encounter it.   And I was about ready to give up on finding palatable food around UC Berkeley.   That's when I happily came upon Ramen House.

The shop is neat, clean and looks to be decked out as a traditional noodle shop.   The waitress greeted me loudly, tea appeared on the table, condiments w/ brief explanations, along w/ a pot of kimchi sat to the side.

I had a lunch combo.   The side of fried rice came to the table steaming right from the wok.   The rice was garnished w/ delicate shreds of pickled ginger, which added a surprisingly exciting note.   It was superb!   The gyoza, altho understuffed, were tasty and lovely to look at.   The bowl of shoyu ramen was very pretty to look at, tho it lacked the egg pictured in the window; perhaps because it was a lunch combo, the establishment skips the egg.   The noodles has a pleasing color as well as satisfying chewy texture.   I DETEST soggy, limp, overcooked noodles.  These noodles had body!   The vegetables were fresh and the whole bowl was nearly perfect.

I generally like to try a restaurant 3 times before rendering a definitive opinion.   I plan on returning to try a bowl of udon and on a future visit, a bowl of ramen on its own--to see if I get that half egg.   I really do like to see that egg floating in a nest of noodles.
